Karnataka: Steep increase in power bill accompanies Congress regime’s 200-unit freebie

Karnataka’s electricity consumers will either pay nothing or through their nose depending on how much they use.

The new Congress regime, headed by chief minister Siddaramaiah, will supply electricity free of cost to consumers with a cap of 200 units a month. But it is not as open-ended as it looks. The freebie comes with a set of conditions.

An electricity supply company (Escom) will give free of cost the average monthly units consumed by a consumer over the past 12 months plus a 10% raise.
