Karnataka asks Centre to fast-track forest clearances for coal blocks
BENGALURU: Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday said he has appealed to the Centre to fast-track the forest clearance for two coal blocks allotted to Karnataka so that the power crisis due to coal shortage is averted in the state.
Bommai said the Centre has allocated coal blocks- one near Chandrapur in Maharashtra and other is Mahanadi in Odisha- and he has requested the Union minister for environment and forest (MoEF) Bhupnedra Yadav to give the required clearances at the earliest.
“The two blocks allotted to karnataka need certain clearances. For instance, the Chandrapur coal field needs a letter from the PCCF (principal chief conservator of forest) of Maharashtra.
