Kabul airport blast kills at least 13, including children, say Taliban official

NEW DELHI: An explosion outside Kabul airport killed at least 13 people, including children, and wounded many Taliban guards, a Taliban official told Reuters.

The US military confirmed about the explosion outside the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Afghanistan, where the United States and other countries have been evacuating tens of thousands of people.

“We can confirm that the explosion near the Abbey Gate of the Kabul airport has resulted in an unknown number of casualties. We will continue to update,” said Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby.

Since the Taliban takeover of the city earlier this month, thousands of Afghan civilians and foreign citizens have gathered at the airport, which has a military and civilian side, desperate to be airlifted out of the country.
