J’suguda coal-laden vehicles throw rules to wind

Thousands of trucks and tippers carrying uncovered coal and sand are creating heavy air pollution in Jharsuguda district.

The vehicular emissions are the prime agent of alarming level of pollution in the district. Besides, illegal and disorderly parking of vehicles on the NH-49 and Biju Expressway also causes many accidents in the district.

For the last five years, the Jharsuguda-Sambalpur and Rourkela roads have turned into death traps. According to a survey, 75 per cent of the accidents are caused by rash and negligent driving andover-loading by coal and sand-laden trucks and lorries.

According to the pollution board officials, as many as 348 persons lost their lives in last three years in the district due to accidents and pollution related matters.
