Jet fuel price up 7.5%, non-subsidised LPG costlier by Re 1

NEW DELHI: Jet fuel prices rose 7.5% on Wednesday, marking the third increase in a month but motor fuel prices remined unchanged after a long bout of 22 upward revisions in pump prices.
Simultaneously, price of non-subsidised cooking gas refills was raised by Re 1 to Rs 594 each in Delhi. Prices were up by Rs 4 in other metros because of higher local levies or VAT.
Costlier jet fuel will increase the financial pain of carriers as it comes at a time when they are operating at only a third of the capacity. Fuel accounts for nearly half of airline operations.
Executives of oil marketing companies said global jet fuel prices, like petrol and diesel, are rebounding as demand rises on the back of gradual resumption in air travel across the world.
Ironically, prices were slashed just before the lockdown began and also during the lockdown when scheduled flights, except those carrying cargo or medical supplies, were grounded. As a result, jet fuel demand had crashed 90% in April. It has now recovered to over 30% of the pre-lockdown period.
