Jabalpur runway excursion: 2 Alliance Air pilots’ licence suspended for a year

NEW DELHI: The flying licence of two Alliance Air pilots who operated an ATR earlier this year from Delhi to Jabalpur that had a runway excursion at the destination during landing, has been suspended for a year.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation took this action after probing the March 12, 2022, incident involving an ATR-72 (VT-AIW) operating as 9I-617 on that route.
“The DGCA investigation has revealed that during landing at Jabalpur airport, the aircraft floated for a long period and touched down about 900 meres after the aiming point. The decision of the pilot flying to continue in spite of a long float resulted into a long landing and subsequently runway excursion. The pilot not flying did not call out for go-around despite the prolonged flare,” said a senior DGCA official.
