International flights to and from Kolkata airport resume two years after Covid break

The city’s air connectivity with abroad has not improved even as regular international flights resumed from Kolkata, as well as the rest of India, on Sunday after a two-year gap when regular services were suspended because of Covid.

A dozen international flights took off from and an equal number landed in the city on Sunday, airport officials said. None of the flights, the officials said, was from or to Europe and the US.

Before the pandemic forced the Centre to ban international flights in March 2020, around 20 international flights would take off from and a similar number land in Kolkata daily, officials said.

The number would remain around that even after a few more airlines resume operations in April, they said.
