IndiGo battle heats up, Bhatias move US court
NEW DELHI: The battle between IndiGo’s founder-promoters Rahul Bhatia and Rakesh Gangwal over controlling India’s largest airline has taken a turn for the worse. Bhatia and his family promoted InterGlobe Enterprises (IGE, parent company of IndiGo) have now filed a petition in the US district court of Maryland against Gangwal group and IndiGo’s independent director Anupam Khanna.
IGE has alleged that Khanna “has acted in coordination with Gangwal” and shared information with him, including through an email account. “In light of the evidence of cooperation between Khanna and Gangwal, the petitioners (IGE) believe that Khanna is likely to be in possession, custody or control of documents and communications concerning the actions taken by Gangwal to the detriment of the company,” it said and sought documentation for arbitration to the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) that was initiated on October 1.
