India-US trade deal: Trump claims India will stop buying Russian oil — what we know so far
US President Donald Trump claimed Monday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi “agreed to stop buying Russian Oil”. He said that, as part of the India-US trade deal, India would purchase more oil from the “United States and, potentially, Venezuela.”
Trump also announced a cut in tariffs on Indian goods from 50% to 18%. Previously, the US had imposed a 25% reciprocal tariff on Indian goods, plus an additional 25% penalty linked to India’s continued imports of Russian crude amid the Ukraine war.
