NEW DELHI: The temporary suspension of India-UK flights may be extended by some time beyond December 31, Union aviation minister H S Puri said on Tuesday.
Last week, India had suspended passenger flights to and from the UK between December 23 and 31, following many others countries like Canada, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Italy due to the Coronavirus variant found in the United Kingdom.
“I personally foresee a slight extension of the temporary suspension beyond December 31. I don’t expect that extension to be a long or an indefinite one. In the next day or two, we will find out if any additional steps need to be taken, or when we can start easing the current suspension,” said Puri. India and the UK have 67 weekly flights operated by four airlines. Almost 2,000-2,500 passengers fly daily on these flights.
