India signals oil imports from Russia to continue

India has indicated that it will continue oil imports from Russia and will prioritise its own energy requirements, with external affairs minister S Jaishankar pointing out that Europe’s fossil fuel import is six times more than Indian purchases from Russia since the conflict broke out in Ukraine. Speaking after meeting his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock, the minister reiterated that India’s position on the Ukraine-Russia conflict has been clear that dialogue and diplomacy are the way forward and that this is not an era of war, as articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
