Highway reopens

Fresh vehicular traffic on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was restored on Sunday, two days after the arterial road was closed on Friday morning following landslides at various places leaving hundreds of trucks stranded.

Although few stranded vehicles at Ramban were allowed to move on Saturday, the fresh traffic was allowed on the highway only on Sunday, officials said.

Senior Traffic Police officials said after resumption of fresh traffic, almost 900 trucks were allowed to move towards the Valley. “Trucks carrying essential goods are on their way but movement of traffic is quite slow. This is due to frequent shooting stones,” Deputy Superintendent of Traffic (Highway), Ajay Anand told Greater Kashmir.
