High CNG prices and inflation led to RTA approval for steep autorickshaw fare hike
The ever-increasing CNG prices, overall inflation and increased cost of living are some of the reasons for Pune Regional Transport Authority to effect the highest-ever hike in auto rickshaw fare in recent memory. The per kilometre cost of travelling in an auto rickshaw will go up from Rs 14 to Rs 17 from September 1. (For the first 1.5 kilometre, the cost will be Rs 25 instead of Rs 21).
The RTA had approved the proposal to raise the fares following demands from auto rickshaw unions. The RTA relied on the recommendations in the Khatua committee report which had proposed a fare formulae for taxis and auto rickshaws based on fuel price, cost of living in city concerned and the state of inflation.
