Hague gives Pakistan more ‘assurance’ on hydel projects under IWT ambit
New Delhi:Pakistan has secured a second round of assurances from the Hague based Court of Arbitration (CoA) related to the crucial issue of pondage/water level related designs at hydel power projects on rivers under the ambit of the Indus Water Treaty– months after the same CoA swung into action at Pakistan’s behest in June and despite India’s non participation.
In its latest Procedural Order No 16, dated November 8, the CoA has accepted Pakistan’s ‘timely’ new request for ‘clarifications’ seeking ‘certainty’ over interpretation and application of the treaty with reference to run of river HEPs in India.
