Grounded Bhubaneswar-Mumbai flight needs new engine

A new engine for Bhubaneshwar-Mumbai bound Air India’s flight that had to make emergency landing at Swami Vivekananda airport, Raipur on November 8 will be taken from another flight that is expected to arrive here on November 15, officials informed here on Tuesday.

“An airbus A319 will be routed to Raipur on November 15 for engine change. We will remove one of the engines of this aircraft and install it on grounded aircraft,” Director, Swami Vivekananda airport Rakesh Ranjan Sahay said.

He further informed that on November 9, the grounded aircraft was inspected by a team of experts from Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (Ministry of Civil Aviation). Another team from Air India’s flight safety and Engineering Team too inspected the aircraft.

Meanwhile, necessary equipment and tools have been dispatched from Delhi and Mumbai that are expected to reach Raipur by November 14, Sahay said.
