Govt need not regulate air fares, capacity any more: IndiGo CEO
IndiGo, India’s largest carrier by market share, feels the government should not be in the business of regulating airline capacity and fares in the domestic sector any more now that Covid-19 cases are falling across the country and businesses are opening up , airline CEO Ronojoy Dutta told ET.
“There is a bigger issue of should the government be involved in this at all?” said Dutta. “Early on, I was okay with it, because no one knew how the passengers would behave. It made sense during the first wave. This collaborative effort, I thought, was very helpful. And we fully supported it. (but)…at this point, I think the government really should get out of the way and I’m hopeful. So, I’m quite optimistic that come July they will be responsive and take the cap up,” Dutta told ET.
