Government may waive penalty on commercial coal miners :Additional coal secretary

KOLKATA: Penalties on commercial coal miners may be waived off, if they are not able to meet milestones due to reasons beyond their control, additional coal secretary Vinod Kumar Tiwari indicated.

Tiwari was addressing a meeting of stakeholders on commercial coal mining in Kolkata recently.

A panel to assess progress of coal blocks can waive penalties on a case-to-case basis. The government also plans to set up a project management unit to help miners get numerous clearances across states.
