Goods train ploughs into rly station; 3 killed

At least three persons, all women, were killed and several other persons injured after a goods train derailed and ploughed into the waiting hall at the Korei railway station in Jajpur district at about 6:40 on Monday morning. The casualties may increase.

The train was on its way from Dongoaposi towards Chhatrapur when eight wagons jumped off the tracks.

Police, RPF and Fire Service personnel reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. The injured were admitted to the Jajpur Community Health Centre (CHC). Several 108 Ambulances were also pressed into service.

The East Coast Railway (ECoR) said the station building has been damaged due to the mishap.
