BENGALURU: Latest in a string of runway excursions, all 180 passengers on board a GoAir flight no G8 811 from Nagpur to Bengaluru were in for a scare on the morning of November 11 after the aircraft veered off the runway airstrip and onto the grass upon touchdown at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), due to the low visibility conditions that prevailed at the airport at the time.
According to sources, the incident occurred around 7:30 am on November 11, when operations of 56 flights were disrupted due to the dense fog and low visibility at the airport. After landing on a strip of grass at the Bengaluru airport, the flight immediately took off in the air and later landed in Hyderabad, where all passengers and crew were made to deboard the plane while an inspection of the aircraft was carried out.
The plane, say sources, was being flown by an expatriate pilot.
A few aviation experts pointed out that the incident could have occured due to a loss of thrust in the left engine of the aircraft.
