GMPF appeals to the Centre for recommencement of Mining in Goa
New Delhi: Goa Mining People’s Front (GMPF), an umbrella organisation for people dependent on the state’s mining sector on Thursday, appealed to the Government of Goa and the Centre for recommencement of mining activities by the end of this year. GMPF has also demanded a financial package for all mining dependents if the mining activities are not resumed by December.
Home minister Amit Shah, in July, had directed the union mines ministry to review the mining stoppage issue in Goa and come up with a positive recommendations for solving the problem.
The state government is also intending to sell the mining dumps after forming a mining development corporation. “The process may take a long period”, the GMPF said, as the ministry of environment in its circular on June 18th, 2018 stated that it requires a prior environmental clearance irrespective of size of the mining lease area and type of mineral including dump mining.
