One after the other, three power generating companies – Adani Power, Tata Power and Essar Power – in an unprecedented move, are attempting to sell their 51 per cent stakes in their coal based coastal power plants to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL), parent body of the four discoms in Gujarat, for a token sum of rupee one. The gencos will retain the balance 49 per cent.
