Gas burden gets heavier, LPG rate up by Rs 21 in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The New Year didn’t bring much cheer for homemakers as LPG cylinder price in Hyderabad saw a jump of Rs 21. The rates for a cylinder on the first day of the year were the highest among all the metro cities in the country. A 14.2kg LPG cylinder cost consumers Rs 769 on Wednesday. On December 31, its price was Rs 748.
The commercial cylinder, weighing 19 kg, also served a New Year shocker as its price had gone up to Rs 1,400 from Rs 1,368 — a jump of Rs 32 — in a matter of 24 hours. This cylinder is mostly used in the hotel industry and hostels.
Consumers were upset with the price hike. “As if the high price of onions, tomatoes and potatoes wasn’t enough, we are now forced to shell out more on a cylinder. There is no respite for middle class people,” complained SL Pragati, a housewife from Ameerpet.
