Gas Based Power Plants

The government had invited bids for providing subsidy on the supply of gas to gas-based power plants. For the bidding purpose, these plants were divided into two categories – one that did not receive domestic gas (called Stranded Gas Plants or SBP) and the other one was that receive domestic gas (called Domestic Gas Plants or DGP). Bidding for the SGP category was held on May 12 and for DGP category on May 13.

SGP
On May 13, the government announced the revival of 10 plants under SGP category for generating 5.05 billion units of electricity which will be supplied at or below Rs 4.70 per unit to the purchaser Discom during the peak summer months from June 1, 2015 to September 30, 2015. This will involve government support of Rs 723.99 crore from the Power System Development Fund (PSDF).
