GAIL director booked, five others arrested by CBI on bribery charges

NEW DELHI: The CBI has booked a director of Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) and conducted searches at his residence in connection with a bribery case. At least Rs 1.3 crores were recovered along with incriminating documents in the searches till late Saturday evening, officials said. The agency has also arrested five people including the director of a private firm in the raids conducted after the registration of FIR in the case.
On January 14, the anti-graft agency filed an FIR against E S Ranganathan, director (marketing) at GAIL for allegedly demanding bribes through middlemen for granting discounts on petrochemical products marketed by GAIL.
“The CBI registered a case against Director (Marketing) GAIL and others including Private persons, private companies & unknown others on the allegations/ information that the accused, a director of a central PSU was indulging into corrupt and illegal activities in conspiracy with the middleman,” CBI spokesperson RC Joshi said in a statement.
