Over the recent years, India has experienced a significant rise in environmental concerns, owing primarily to global warming, pollution, waste accumulation and climate change. Waste generation, in particular, has become a major issue, with India ranking at the forefront of waste-producing nations. The accumulated waste often finds its way into landfills and water bodies or is left unattended, leading to severe environmental consequences. The 2023 State of India’s Environment report, released by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), reveals that the country produces 150,000 tonnes of municipal solid waste (MSW) daily, with over half of it either ending up in landfills or left unaddressed.
