Free LPG cylinders to keep kitchens going in Ujjwala households for 3 months
NEW DELHI: Households with ‘Ujjwala’ LPG connection will get free refills till June, a move, which, together with the provision of free foodgrain through ration shops, will put food on the table in 8.3 crore poor households and help them tide over the corona lockdown and loss of livelihood.
The measure is part of a Rs 1.7 lakh crore relief package announced by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday. Describing the package as “an example of responsive governance in challenging times,” oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan said it will “mitigate the economic impact of the Covid-19 outbreak on the rural and urban poor, farmers, health workers, migrant workers, senior citizens and other vulnerable sections of the society.”
