Foxconn in talks with Vietnam’s Vinfast on electric car partnership: Report

TAIPEI/HANOI (Reuters) – Taiwan’s Foxconn is in early stage talks with Vietnamese carmaker VinFast about partnering in electric vehicles, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

Foxconn has proposed acquiring VinFast’s EV production lines, the sources said, speaking on condition of anonymity as they were not authorised to speak to the media.

But VinFast, a unit of Vietnam’s largest conglomerate Vingroup JSC, prefers a partnership as it is keen to brand itself as an eco-friendly automaker and wants to retain its EV business, one of the sources said.

Foxconn declined to comment. A Vingroup spokesman said the company had no information on the matter to provide.
