For flyers from Metros, it’s destination Metro again
When domestic travel resumed in May last year, Varanasi, Delhi and Patna were the top three popular destinations to fly out of Mumbai, and for Delhi, it was Patna, Kolkata and Ranchi. But this June, the traditional, pre-pandemic, metro-to-metro travel pattern has returned, showed data from a travel company. The current topmost busy routes from Mumbai are Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad; while those from Delhi are Mumbai, Bengaluru and Srinagar.
“Domestic air travel bookings have doubled from May to June coinciding with reduced caseloads and increased vaccination levels,” said Rajiv Subramanian, VP, Cleartrip, an online travel company. What also changed was last year’s travel pattern. “Last year, we saw a lot of travel from Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru to smaller cities in the north and east as people returned home due to the pandemic. That trend has reduced, especially in June,” he added. And this includes bookings for leisure travel.
