Flyover ready, waits for minister

CHENNAI: The state highways department has wrapped up construction of the third arm of Perungalathur flyover, but the facility remains closed for the general public for more than a month as the department is waiting for minister E VVelu to inaugurate it.

The 400-metre-long arm, which connects Srinivasa Nagar, Old Perungalathur and Mudichur with GST Road, was supposed to be opened for public use two years ago. But construction delays were attributed to the pandemic and court cases linked to land acquisition.

Criticising the inordinate delay, David Manohar, a resident-activist from Pallavaram said, “The highways department earlier said that the flyover would be opened after service road construction was completed.
