Flights to smaller towns pick up as airlines raise frequency
CHENNAI: The frequency of flights from Chennai to airports in smaller towns is increasing based on high demand from travellers.
Trujet has added one flight to Mysuru, taking the number of daily flights to three, and is set to add one more flight to Salem shortly. This has improved connectivity between the two cities, an official said.
Similarly, the number of flights handled from smaller airports under southern region of the Airports Authority of India has also gone up in the last one year signifying that flying activity among small towns is picking up in the south. The number of flights handled at Puducherry, Belgaum, Hubli, Kadapa and Mysuru have increased. Direct flights from Chennai to Hubbali, Kadapa and Mysuru are doing well and airlines are contemplating increasing the frequency of services.
A senior official from AAI said, “There is a lot of interest in flights to Salem.
