Erstwhile war torn Jaffna gets connected to India via air

New Delhi: President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena on Thursday launched the Jaffna International Airport on Friday opening a new chapter in regional connectivity. Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe was also present on the occasion.

The inaugural flight with Indians landed in Jaffna airport from Chennai to mark the historic occasion.The ATR72-600 short-haul flight was operated by Alliance Air, a subsidiary of Air India. This is Alliance Air’s first international flight.
