Ennore power plant to be expanded

Chennai: After a delay of more than a decade, the 660-MW Ennore Thermal Power Station (ETPS) expansion project will soon be developed under a public-private partnership. The Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) has approved the state-owned power generation corporation’s petition to float a tender to build, own, and operate the plant by a private player.

While the land in possession of the Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation (TNPGCL) will be leased to the winning bidder at the rate of 1 per hectare, the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (TNPDCL) will buy electricity from the plant through a long-term power purchase agreement.
