Energy demand growth fastest in the world
India’s energy demand will grow 4.2% a year for the next three decades, faster than that in any other major economy in the world, according to the Economic Survey. So, it said, there is a need to augment refining capacity to meet growing demand for petroleum fuels and petrochemicals, which play a significant role in sustaining GDP.
Peak Power Deficit Falls
Government initiatives to generate more electricity and supply it to every household that wants to be connected have almost wiped out India’s power deficit even in peak demand periods. In 2012-13, peak-hour supply was 9% short of demand. In 2018-19, this gap narrowed to 0.8%.
