Energy bills may spike on imported coal

An over 200% increase in the price of imported coal since March 2020 could shoot up monthly power bills of consumers in Mumbai and its suburbs as power generation companies are considering an increase in the fuel adjustment charges (FAC).

FAC is the amount that utilities apply on bills based on the varying price of fuel or coal. It is a charge that is applicable per unit of electricity consumed.
