Electricity mission on cards to cut oil dependence

The government is planning a mission to increase electricity penetration from 17% to 27% in the next 10 years to reduce oil usage and cut dependence on imported crude.

The government is identifying areas with low to medium heating requirements where such a shift is possible. Activities in domestic and commercial consumer sectors such as cooking and transportation, and solarising agricultural pumps are areas where the maximum focus is expected.
