Electric vehicle sales on track to cross 1-million milestone this year

India’s electric vehicle industry is set to cross a milestone this year.

Retail sales of EVs are estimated to top the 1-million mark in calendar year 2022, accounting for about 4.7% of the total automobile sales.

According to data on the government’s Vahan website, about 9,89,000 EVs have been registered with regional transport offices till Thursday. The numbers already show a more than threefold increase from 2021. The numbers do not include data from Telangana.
