EESL signs MoU with Coal India for decarbonization of its facilities

Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of public sector undertakings (PSUs) under the Ministry of Power, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Coal India Ltd (CIL) for energy efficiency and resource conservation measures for decarbonization of CIL’s projects and facilities.

The pact was signed by Venkatesh Dwivedi, Director (Projects & Business Development), EESL and Sanjiv Soni, Director ( Finance), CIL in the presence of Coal Secretary, Anil Kumar Jain.

Under the agreement, EESL will carry out studies to identify opportunities for CIL to adopt clean energy and energy-efficient practices, implement energy-efficient projects with finance models, monitor the impact of implemented energy efficiency projects, and also support CIL and its subsidiaries in training and capacity building.

“There is considerable potential for decarbonization of power generation plans and I commend both EESL and CIL for taking this initiative, as this sets great precedent for others to follow suit,” Jain said.

The pact envisages implementation of a model that includes integration of EESL’s programmes – including street lights national programme, buildings energy efficiency program, super-efficient air conditioners and centralized chiller system, decentralized solar programme etc.

EESL will make investments and develop projects on a customized basis while CIL will provide permissions and statutory clearances.
