EESL in pact with Coal India to promote energy efficiency

State-run Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has signed an agreement with Coal India Ltd (CIL) for implementation of energy efficiency projects in CIL and its subsidiaries.

As per the agreement, which was signed on February 8, EESL will carry out energy efficiency projects in all CIL establishments including office buildings and mines, EESL said in a statement.

Coal India is a holding company with seven wholly owned coal producing subsidiary companies and one mine planning and consultancy company.

It encompasses the whole gamut of identification of coal reserves, detailed exploration followed by design and implementation and optimizing operations for coal extraction in its mines.

EESL through its programs is paving the roadmap for making energy efficiency more accessible, affordable and safer for cities and dwellings.

It seeks to unlock energy efficiency market in India, estimated at USD 12 billion that can potentially result in energy savings of up to 20 per cent of current consumption, by way of innovative business and implementation models.

It also acts as the resource center for capacity building of state DISCOMs, financial institutions and others.
