Easy access: Delhi government to soon provide EV charging stations on roadside

NEW DELHI: Delhi government on Monday announced that it was working on a blueprint to introduce “kerbside charging” for electric vehicles (EVs). This would allow the vehicles to be charged while being parked on the roadside using streetlight lamp posts or through dedicated posts.

Dialogue and Development Commission (DDC) of Delhi vice-chairperson Jasmine Shah convened a meeting to discuss the roll-out plan for setting up EV charging points on the kerbside of all roads maintained by the Public Works Department (PWD).

The government said in a statement on Monday that in the pilot phase, 100 kerbside charging points would be installed under DDC and implemented by the power discoms. More than 5,000 kerbside charging points would be installed on PWD roads in the next three years.
