Domestic flights: Cap on airfares may be lifted as services reaching pre-Covid levels

The price band on domestic flights are expected to be discontinued soon as flight services are reaching pre-Covid levels in the country, said Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Wednesday.

Terming the capping of airfares as an “extraordinary measure”, Puri said, “Our effort…is always to open up a little ahead of the actual and potential traffic.” The Union Minister was replying to questions raised in the Rajya Sabha session in the Parliament today.

Earlier this month, Puri announced that the government had extended the cap on domestic airfares till 24 February. It was earlier implemented till 24 November in the wake of the pandemic. The domestic flights in India have a cap on fares with both an upper and lower limit.
