Domestic consumers to bear brunt of revised power tariff in Kerala

Domestic consumers will bear the brunt of the hike in power charges in Kerala announced by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC) on Monday.

The monthly bill would go up by 11.4 per cent for domestic segment; 3.3 per cent for commercial; 5.7 per cent for low-tension ; and 6.1 per cent for high-tension customers.

The monthly bill will go up by about Rs. 18 for the lowest slab (0-50 units) and by Rs. 254 for the highest (500 units and above), Preman Dhinraj, Chairman, KSERC, told newspersons here.

Additional revenues

The tariff revision is expected to bring additional revenue of Rs. 902 crore during 2019-20 to KSEB Ltd, the public utility. It had pushed for a mobilisation of Rs. 1,100 crore, which did not find favour with the KSERC.
