Do away with RT-PCR test requirement for domestic travel: ICMR
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Tuesday released new guidelines for Covid-19 testing, aimed at better management of limited RT-PCR test capacity even as caseloads remain high.
It suggested removing the requirement for an RT-PCR test for domestic travel. “The need for RTPCR test in healthy individuals undertaking inter-state domestic travel may be completely removed to reduce the load on laboratories,” it said on Tuesday. However, the guidelines state that non-essential travel or inter-state travel of symptomatic individuals should be avoided, and asymptomatic individuals undertaking essential travel should follow Covid-19 appropriate behavior, the guidelines added.
