Discom officials offered bribe to impose power cuts

The Energy Department on Saturday suspended as many as six officials of two power distribution companies (Discoms) in the wake of a TV channel’s telecast of ‘Operation Blackout’, a programme that exposed the alleged involvement of the officials in corruption.

Those placed under suspension are Abhimanyu Jena, Electrical JE, Khordha sub-division; Subrat Das, Electrical JE, VSS Nagar sub-division; Subrat Mishra, Electrical JE, Baramunda sub-division; Subrat Tripathy, Electrical JE, Jatani sub-division; Bhagaban Pradhan, Executive Engineer, Nabarangpur sub-division; and Jagannath Prasad Nanda, Executive Engineer, Gunupur sub-division.

The department has decided to lodge police complaint against them.
