Diesel sales fall 15% from July in August fortnight but annual growth continues
NEW DELHI: India’s fuel consumption fell in the first fortnight of August from a month ago as the rush of demand after lifting of a second round of Covid-19 curbs tapered off and monsoon rains affected mobility.
Preliminary data, however, suggest the annual growth remains intact, albeit at a slower pace than last month.
Diesel consumption, a key indicator of economic growth, fell more than 15% in the fortnight under review from the same period of July but just about 8% lower than the corresponding period of 2019.
Petrol sales dropped about 5% from a month ago during the fortnight, marking the first monthly decline in consumption since May this year.
