Diesel price inches closer to the century mark in Kolkata

Kolkata: A litre of diesel is only Rs 2 shy of a century in Kolkata at present as fuel prices in the city rose again on Wednesday, with diesel reaching Rs 98.03 per litre and petrol selling at Rs 106.78 per litre in yet another all-time high.
Fuel prices in the country have been hovering at record levels since April this year. While diesel used to sell at Rs 77.41 at the start of the year and had a Rs 6 rise in the first four months, it has shot up by close to Rs 15 per litre in six months and is set to climb further according to fuel station operators in the city.
“The way the fuel price is increasing, it is most likely to cross the Rs 100 mark by the end of this month itself,” said Sushil Chowdhury, manager at a fuel pump in north Kolkata.
