Diesel demand contracts in November first half as festive demand wanes
NEW DELHI: India’s diesel consumption contracted in the first half of November, dropping more than 15% from the same period of last year and 19% from 2019 as the festive demand waned early this year.
But petrol consumption hovered just above the pre-pandemic level as people still preferred to use personal vehicles. Sales grew less than one per cent from a year ago and a tad more than 1% from the same period of 2019.
In an encouraging sign though, consumption of diesel, jet fuel and LPG, or cooking gas supplied to households in cylinders, rose from the same period of last month. Only petrol sales dropped almost 1% from a month ago.
