DGCA orders major airports to make provision for disabled aircraft recovery kit

Mumbai: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Monday made it mandatory for all major Indian airports to have a disabled aircraft recovery kit to meet exigencies by the end of the current fiscal.

The DGCA directive comes weeks after recovery of an aircraft that got stuck off the Mumbai airport runway and took more than three days to get repaired, thus resulting in several cancellations and diversions of flights from the airport during the period.

Accordingly, airports at Kolkata, Chennai, Guwahati, New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai, among the others, have been directed by the DGCA to procure a disabled aircraft recovery kit by 31 March, 2020.
