Delhi: Power demand scales new peak of 5,985 MW

NEW DELHI: With the national capital witnessing heat wave conditions, the peak power demand clocked 5,985 MW on Wednesday night – the season’s highest so far.
Last summer, Delhi’s peak power demand had touches 7,409 MW, which is an all-time high, recorded on July 2, 2019.
Delhi has been witnessing maximum temperature, breaching the 40 degree Celsius mark, for quite some time now, with the mercury crossing 46 degrees Celsius at some places on Thursday. To add to the capital’s woes, humidity levels have also been on the higher side for the past few days.
It was 11.12pm on Wednesday that the city’s peak power demand clocked 5,985 MW, pipping the season’s previous high of 5,899 MW, recorded on Tuesday. In a statement, BSES said that till Thursday evening, Delhi’s peak power demand was 5,925 MW, recorded at 3.34pm.
The highest demand was witnessed in the area falling under BSES Rajdhani Power Limited’s jurisdiction – 2,720 MW – followed by north Delhi, where Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited clocked 1,721 MW demand and east Delhi, where BSES Yamuna Power Limited met the peak power demand of 1,341 MW.
