Defying KRMB, Telangana continues power generation at Srisailam

HYDERABAD: Sticking to its contention that Srisailam project was conceived for hydel power generation in the united Andhra Pradesh, the Telangana government has been generating electricity from its units at the project. This, despite Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) direction to stop hydel power generation from Srisailam following complaints by Andhra Pradesh.

Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had on several occasions said Telangana would generate power at Srisailam to meet the state’s requirements.

Telangana Genco officials confirmed that they have been continuously generating between 300 and 450 MW power by operating two or three of the six units, depending on the power demand in the state. Each of the six units have 150 MW capacity at Srisailam hydroelectric power station.
