‘Damaged pressure gauge led to gas leak’

The damaged high-pressure gauge of the compressed natural gas (CNG) cylinders led to a gas leak on the bus that caught fire near Gokuldham market bus stop in Goregaon (East) on May 3, states a report submitted by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST). The report was tabled before a BEST panel on Monday.

The BEST committee, the policy-making body of the undertaking, had asked the administration to submit a detailed report at the earliest.

The report adds that inspection of the charred bus, done by a team of experts, revealed that no other parts of the fuel system, besides the high-pressure gauge, were damaged in the fire. The expert panel comprised executives of the bus manufacturer (Tata Motors), pressure gauge manufacturer and hydro test experts.
